"Protea Hotel Gold Reef City - We recently stayed at the Protea Hotel Gold Reef City in Johannesburg South Africa. We were on route to Cape Town. If you looking for a well located, special hotel in Johannesburg, read on. We stayed there last year but didn't get a chance to explore the hotel and the area. This time we spent three days and did a lot in those days! The hotel is situated very close to the Apartheid Museum (walking distance 4 mins). I learned a lot about South Africa's past and positive future.respect, dignity and reconciliation are words that will stay with me for a long time. We took a tour to Soweto which was organised by someone from the hotel. We spent half a day in the township which was mind blowing stuff. The hotel is located in the Gold Reef City theme park and village. You get free entrance as a guest. We managed to do a mine tour, see a gold pour and watch tribal dancing by mine workers. The theme park has a great feel and atmosphere compared to the hustle and rush of Johannesburg. One of the highlights was feeling safe and comfortable walking around the relaxing theme park. I have felt worried visiting Johannesburg before ,but have found the right hotel in Johannesburg for future stays. We went on the 4-D theatre ride. Its Africa's first and sponsored by WWF to get kids to be more aware and invloved about the environment and global warming in a fun way. the show was called Panda Vision.Great to see it in Africa!!well done Gold Reef City. Overall the hotel is great and the staff are friendly. We booked online and got a great deal compared to the other hotels in Sandton and Johannesburg. Protea Hotel Gold Reef City is great value for money and if you get a chance have a meal or drink on the terrace of the village streets."
